Area, State, and North American Envirothon

Student Journalist Application

To expand the reach of the Area IV Envirothon into the fields of study of journalism and public relations.  To promote the Area IV Envirothon and the message of conservation through the professional and enthusiastic participation of students.  And allow students to prepare the conservation message for their peers in innovative and creative ways.

Eligibility

  • 9-12th Grade Student

  • Preference will be given to schools who have not sent a journalism student in the past 3 years.

  • Course of study or club participation related to communications, environmental science, or agriculture

  • Attend a school in the Area IV Envirothon counties; preference will be given to students whose school also sends a team for the Area IV Envirothon competition

Guidelines
  • Application Deadline: Received by 3rd Monday in March.

  • A maximum of five (5) students will be selected

  • Award notification will be by 1st Monday in April

  • Judging Criteria - each category is worth 25 points:

The Ohio Area 4 Envirothon is a competitive, academic, outdoor team event for high school students which tests their knowledge in five areas:  Aquatic Ecology, Current Environmental Issues (CEI), Forestry, Soils and Wildlife.  The event is designed to stimulate and reinforce the students interest in our environment and our natural resources while encouraging cooperative decision making, team building, and problem solving.
